Frequently Asked Questions
What EXIF data gets removed?
The tool removes GPS coordinates, camera make and model, capture timestamp, lens metadata, software version, copyright tags, XMP packets, and embedded thumbnail images from JPEG APP1 segments. PNG private chunks (tEXt, iTXt, zTXt, eXIf) are also stripped. Image pixels are never re-encoded, so there is zero quality loss.
Does removing EXIF data affect image quality?
No. The tool surgically removes only the metadata segments from the binary file structure. For JPEG, this means slicing out APP1/APP2 segments while keeping DQT, SOF, DHT, and SOS segments intact. The pixel data is never decoded or re-compressed, so the output is bit-identical to the input except for the metadata.
Why should I remove EXIF before sharing photos online?
EXIF metadata can reveal your exact GPS location (latitude/longitude accurate to a few meters), the date and time a photo was taken, and the device used. This information is embedded silently by all smartphone cameras. Removing it before posting on social media, forums, or dating apps protects your physical location and privacy.
